The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) and Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) partnered for #AralLakbay, an NAC-led initiative that combines the power of storytelling, art, and history through educational talks. Held on 6 September 2025 at Galleries XXV–XXVI of the National Museum of Fine Arts, the first installment of #AralLakbay focused on climate change. 

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People, in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, National Library of the Philippines, and Museo Pambata celebrated the 42nd National Children’s Book Day last July 15, 2025 morning at Balay Yatu in Museo Pambata.

The exhibit celebrates the 20th anniversary of CANVAS, or the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development -- a non-profit organization that works with the creative community to promote children's literacy and encourage an appreciation for Philippine art and culture.

Dubbed “CANVAS: 20 Years of Art and Stories,” the exhibit features the works of various artists, most of whom have provided the illustrations for children’s story books. The show opened on June 14 and will run for a year at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Celebrating CANVAS’ 20th year of promoting children’s literacy and Philippine art and culture, the exhibit features interactive installations, striking artworks, and powerful storytelling—all curated with young minds in focus. Designed to spark imagination and dialogue, the exhibit invites children to explore their rights, the power of creativity, and how to navigate an increasingly digital world.

Starting June 14, CANVAS is holding the benefit art exhibit CANVAS: 20 Years of Art and Stories for its 20th anniversary. It is currently open to the public on the fourth floor of the National Museum for Fine Arts in Manila. The exhibit will run for a year.

The pre-launch media tour of their anniversary exhibition, “CANVAS: 20 Years of Art and Stories,” was more than just an event; it was an immersive dive into a world where a child’s imagination, sparked by a book or a brushstroke, holds the power to change the world.

Driven by its mission of encouraging a love for books and fostering discussion and reflection on the key issues of our times through the power of art and literature, the Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) has made great strides since it launched its first book in 2005 and now halfway its long-term goal of distributing 1 million books for 1 million Filipino children

Non-profit organization Canvas, or the Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (Canvas), celebrates its 20th anniversary with a year-long exhibit at the National Museum of Fine Arts. The show is divided into themes that represent the various advocacies close to the organization. One is “Safe Space,” an area that teaches children the basic principles of internet safety. Meanwhile, “I Am the Change in Climate Change” is an interactive section centered on environmental awareness.

Now, as CANVAS celebrates its 20th anniversary, it does so with the same heart and vision that have guided it since 2005: using books and art as tools to build literacy, inspire imagination, and explore what it means to be Filipino. From its first publication, Elias and His Trees, to over 50 titles since, the nonprofit has nurtured a vibrant ecosystem where stories and visuals work together to shape a better future.

The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) has been nominated for the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), a global award given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. The laureate will be announced in 2025, the same year CANVAS will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

If Trees Could Talk participating artist Mark Salvatus holds a songwriting workshop for the young artists from Busktangas. This workshop is part of his installation currently in progress for the biennale.
