
Education major wins 39th Romeo Forbes Children’s Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development awards the prize for its 39th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition to Kung Paanong Iniligtas ni Tunying ang Gabi written by Ashly Brandy C. Rosal, who shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story. Two hundred fifty-nine (259) entries, all based on the artwork by CJ Tañedo, were received for this competition.
Born in Pangasinan and raised in Cavite, Rosal is four years into earning his Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Mathematics, at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. A student journalist with a love for numbers, he was also recognized by DTI’s Young Creatives Challenge for a script for a short film. His entry for this competition is the first children’s story he has ever written.
CANVAS also congratulates Klara Espedido for the story Bituin! Bituin! and Johann Jazmine Perez for the story The Beast and The Starcatcher which were selected as finalists for this run.
Writer-illustrator wins 38th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development awards the prize for its 38th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition to Jayson Baltero Barona’s Ang Naglalakbay na Karinderya.
Barona shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story. A record-breaking 320 entries, all based on the artwork by June Digan, were received for this competition. CANVAS also congratulates Christopher Rosales for the story Ang Nagpapalit Hugis Naming Eskuwela and Eric Roxas for the story Ang mga Kamangha-manghang Kaibigan ni Kiko, which were selected as finalists for this run.

Fantasy writer wins 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development awards the prize for its 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition to Leonard John Banaag’s Where are my Legs?.
Banaag shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story. Almost 190 entries, all based on the artwork by Nat Lamina, were received for this competition. CANVAS also congratulates Edgar C. Samar for the story Ang Batang Nahahati sa Tatlo and Jayson Barona for the story Manang Angal, Ang Katipunerang Manananggal, which were selected as finalists for this run.

The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development is pleased to announce the results from its 35th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition. Katrina Macapagal shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for her story The Hymn of Leaves. A total of 239 entries, all based on the artwork by Chad Montero, were received for this competition.

Two Martial Law exhibits open on September 21
To commemorate 50 years since the declaration of Martial Law, back-to-back exhibits will be launched on September 21, 2022 via radikal.ph and tumbatumba.ph—Alingawngaw and Usok at Bulaklak sa Panahon ng Martial Law.
Presented by The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development and Marahuyo Art Projects, each exhibit will be compiled in books that will be given away to children in poor and disadvantaged communities, as part of CANVAS' One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children campaign. These exhibits and books are just some of the many steps that CANVAS and Marahuyo Art Projects expect to take, not only to preserve memory, but more importantly, to imbibe in our children a deeper understanding and appreciation for human rights.
Literature professor Lorena Santos wins 34th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is pleased to announce the results from its 34th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition. Maria Lorena M. Santos shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for her story The Salakot Flowers. A total of 88 entries, all based on the artwork by Abi Dionisio, were received for this competition.
YOUTHink media literacy book wins Best Reads at the National Children’s Book Awards
#YOUTHink, a publication that aims to help fight misinformation through media literacy, was hailed as one of the Best Reads for 2020-2021 at the recently held 7th National Children’s Book Awards.
The book was published by the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) with funding support from Google.
CANVAS bags 4 wins at 7th National Children’s Book Awards
Four books from CANVAS (The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development) were recognized at the 7th National Children’s Book Awards. The ceremonies were streamed live via the Facebook page of PBBY (The Philippine Board on Books for Young People) on the 39th National Children’s Book Day, July 19, 2022.

The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development is pleased to announce the results from its 33rd Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition. Anne Rubio shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for her story House of Gold. A total of 150 entries, all based on the artwork by Tiffany Lafuente, were received for this competition.
Globe, Google PH, and CANVAS launch exhibit on online safetyfor kids
The exhibit is based on the NPC-awarded book ‘Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy.’ The activity book teaches children aged 6 to 12 about personal data and how to protect it. Using child-friendly language, Safe Space shows how social media, online gaming, and other platforms collect and use personal data. A digital copy of the book is available for free at the Globe eLibrary.
Exhibit on safe internet opens at Globe Tower
A pocket museum for kids opened at Globe Tower on May 17, 2022 to promote online safety. Previously displayed at the UP Vargas Museum, the Safe Internet exhibit includes interactive art installations designed by Studio Dialogo, based on books written by Gigo Alampay, and published by CANVAS (The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development) with the help of UBS, Globe, and Google through a partnership with CANVAS’ One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign.

Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), together with non-profit Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS.PH), recently held a two-part webinar series centered around digital art in the age of non-fungible tokens to help artists, buyers, and collectors of digital art gain a better understanding of how these tokens work and how they can take part in the NFT art economy.
